Thursday March 28th
Today we had a local newspaper called The Star to come interview us about the bridge we built and what our experience was like. This well help not only me but everyone in the group to be more confident in talking to strangers and become more of a speaker rather than letting one person do all the work.

My Reflection
I think that doing what I did for community service really has helped me to see what us around me and has made me improved in aspects I thought would be tough to concur. By organizing the golf tournament I think that it made me improve in public speaking and to improve in my organizing skills. By me having organized 2 golf tournaments before teachers have come up to me and asked for help in organizing another golf tournament for a different club, and it has made me see two distinct aspects, the first thing it has let me see is that with my knowledge and experience in doing so I can help and talk to the teachers and show them what they should do and give them any ideas on either how to improve or what should be in or out of the tournament. The second thing it has made me have contacts from sponsors that would help in whatever I’d ask them and this made me realize that by having a good speaker and saying the right stuff to the sponsors really makes a difference and the most greatest difficulty is your tone of voice, this is one of the key aspects to concur when talking to a big corporation. By talking to the sponsors it has shown me that people/corporations are willing to help people for the right causes and if they know that once they sponsor their money is going towards a good cause, if you show them what you made with their money they would consider year after year to help again and see the difference us students do to the nation by just brainstorming idea and follow through with them. A good example is when I built the bridge in the north of Kenya, these bridges that we build will help millions of people every year and are low cost so for us raising money, yes is tough work, but we feel privileged that what we built is helping people and this is why we have built every year a bridge in the most prone area of disaster we could find, it also shows how the local community react to this and listen to what they think about it and see if they have any other ideas that we could do or anything they would like help with in the area. By working with the cast of the school and me playing my saxophone has made me improve in sight-reading and work hard on touch pieces of music.

Helping Out For A Golf Tournament
I am helping out the Interact club get ready for their golf tournament they are going to have in april and since i am experienced in doing a golf tournament i have been asked to help out organize it. This has helped me to become more organized and show people what to do so that there is not only one person that has to take care of organizing the tournament.
The School Musical
I am playing my saxophone for the school play and this has been on for about 3 months including all the practice times and rehersals. I think this has helped me in the way to get more experience in playing my sax and getting less nervous. This for me is a good form of learning.

Marich Bridge Trip
On January 30th a group of students went to Marich in the North of Kenya to build the second bridge. We started off by fundraising which was the golf tournament in which we raised just over $6,000. We built the bridge within 2 days which was a good deal of work everyday. We accomplished it and we then had the opening ceremony which was really fun because there was dancing and music and everything was traditional.
